What Is the Shield Fund?
For years, donors known as Minutemen stepped up when Central faced unexpected repairs, needs, and replacements. Whether inside the buildings or around the property, Minutemen made a permanent difference as Central’s most faithful group of supporters.
To continue providing this line of defense, Central now utilizes the Shield Fund. Ephesians 6:16 says, “In every situation, take up the shield of faith….” The shield symbol was part of the original Central seal and symbolizes a faithful life. It was selected for this giving program to show faith in God’s provision through His people’s generosity during unexpected difficulties.
The Shield Fund defends Central against unexpected expenses. Shield Projects are quarterly opportunities to give toward repairs, upgrades, and replacements. Every project makes a difference.

This year, students needed the Central Grant to close the financial gap more often than anticipated. Behind every Central Grant is a name and a story. It may be a difficult family situation, a country thousands of miles away, or simply a young man or woman trying to determine whether following God's call is financially possible.
The unexpected financial need to help incoming students close that gap was $25,000 more than the budget. This Shield Fund Project will help offset the extra financial aid provided to students whose circumstances required a little more assistance this year. The easy answer would have been to say, “This is what the scholarship covers. You'll have to figure out the rest.” Instead, Central welcomed them into the family with a different answer: “I’ve got you.”
When Central Christian College of the Bible became Central Bible University, a new symbol was chosen to surround the torch. For years, it was inside a circle. Today, the torch is surrounded by a shield. The torch still represents the truth of God’s Word lighting the path. But the shield adds something else: Central will protect what matters.
Because students matter, that is where the shield needs to be raised. The SEAL Scholarship Program is an incredible tool for identifying students who fit Central's mission by growing in Service, Experience, Academics, and Leadership. But scholarships don't make every hardship disappear.
That’s where the Central Grant comes in. It is a pool of money that bridges the gap for a student whose financial reality threatens to close a door that needs to stay open.
Central's campus community is growing, and that's worth celebrating. But more than just additional students, these are the right students. They are hungry for Scripture, willing to serve, discovering their calling, and preparing to spend their lives about their Father's business.
When one of those students gets all the way to the campus only to discover that a few thousand dollars stands between them and the opportunity God has placed before them, people like you are standing behind the shield, saying, “I’ve got you.”
There are moments when a young person takes an extraordinary step of obedient faith towards their Heavenly Father. It's a beautiful thing when the family of God steps forward to meet them there.
